Ask The Imam About Etymology

I think somebody was playing an April Fool's joke on Ask the Imam: Is it true that Tallahasse means "He Allah will deliver you sometime in the future?"

The Imam doesn't fall for it:

We do not know what the Tallahasse means.

and Allah Ta'ala Knows Best

Mufti Ebrahim Desai
In case you're wondering, it means "old town."

As-salamo Alaykum. My name is Romi Romero, I am 25 years old. My family is of Mexican decent. I pray everyday and visit the masjid at least 7 times a week, when i am not able to visit the masjid I pray at home/work. I have been Muslim for 2 years. I met a 22 year old arabi woman and went to the family's home with four sheikh's acting as my wali and asked her father for his blessing. The family then contacted me and told me to keep practicing Islam, learn arabi and inshallah we could be married. That was one year ago. In this year with the parents request I was invited to dinner many times. As a token of grattitude I offer my services to the elder parents in such matters as landscaping and lawnmowing, gardening, I even helped them at the grocery store owned by the father. Not only am I in love with thier daughter but I have fallen in love with the family. The lady's brother and i have become very colse friends, infact he is the one who introduced me to his sister. He supports our relationship and it has brought us closer, we plan on starting a business togeather. On the eve of the family announcing the engagment, the uncle's of my future fiance( inshalllah) made a surprise visit to the family's house. Seven brothers sat down with my future father in-law( inshallah) and told him that mexican people were lazy, beat thier women, and drank alcohol. This was a shock to my family. The brothers then proceeded to tell the father that if he allowed a marriage they would not attend not would they speak to the family. I follow the Quran, Kittab, and the sunna. I have found no place where the religion preaces segregation or racism, nor have i found a place that insists that arabi marry arabi or nor-arabi marry nor-arrabi. The one issue I do remember reading in the Quran is that muslims are equal to other muslims and that no tribe is better than the other, we are all equal and should be treated so. The lady has contacted my mother and told her not matter what she wanted to marry me, and that she would turn away any future suitor's ( gentleman callers). I do not want to marry any other woman except this lady. I would swim to the bottom of the ocean for her, I can not live without her. Life would not be the same for me. I pray the Istikharrah after every prayer asking allah to grant me the marriage if it is good for me and if it is not to take it away from me as well as taking it away from my heart. My heart is very strong for this woman and it is not stopping(inshallah) My mother has been listening to the little knowledge that I have about the Quran, and is interested in becoming a muslim herself(inshallah) I only hope her heart will not be angered by the blind closed minds of the lady's parents. I am at a loss the lady still wants to marry as I long to be her husband ( inshallah) Will our dreams and hopes be able to exist ( inshallah1)? I patiently wait for some guidence to this issue My e-mail address is Smoof1@hotmail.com
